Trexler Scout Reservation Akelaland

In January 1927, General Harry C. Trexler offered to buy a proposed campsite in Monroe County for the Boy Scouts of the Lehigh Valley.  He stipulated however that the equivalent of the purchase price had to be raised for the purpose of development, improvement, and maintenance.  The program was carried out successfully.

Trexler Scout Reservation has since developed into one of the Northeast Region’s finest Scout Camps.  Akelaland, nestled within Trexler Scout Reservation, has 15 campsites and site capacity varies from 10 to 20 campers.  Akelaland offers the perfect setting for scout-family activity, or just peaceful escape from the day to day rigors of community life.  Ten miles northwest of Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania, Akelaland, formally Pioneer Camp, Minsi Trails Council's rustic scout camp, encompasses over 200 acres of Trexler Scout Reservation.  In the mid- 80's the camp was closed and converted to a cub resident camp.  Changes over the years and the increased attendance have brought many improvements to the facility.  Most appreciated are the new showers, latrines, Dining Hall, and Kitchen facilities.  The reservation also has two lakes.  Trexler Lake, where the waterfront is located, teems with bass and an assortment of other fish.  Lake Minsi abounds with rainbow trout.  "Barb-less" hooks are used and all but injured fish are released.  Varied wildlife makes the reservation its home and allows both youth and adults the opportunity of experiencing and interacting with nature first hand.
